Sunday I leave for my exhibit at Verge art miami beach (December 6-9, 2012). I'll be driving cross country with my car
full of artwork in anticipation of the incredible  international Art Basel week long event in Miami. Buen Viaje and  Bon Voyage!

Free

Sometimes I will draw a painting that is halfway done, then draw the drawing of it or create freed forms in paper  and then draw the configuration I make on the wall. Then I draw shadows they create. This piece  " Free" ,  was just a couple of drawings that came out of my head. I want  to draw the shadows later on - I like to play with the light and change the quality of the shadow shapes . They are as important to the piece in my mind as the piece itself . This is a softer shadow version. This piece seems vaguely sexual, transitory and full of possibility . It is my first 3-D Drawing , completed early in 2012 and exhibited in "The Drawing Show" at Pump Project , March 2012 in Austin. "Free" by Soña Holman Free by Soña Holman

Another Place Called Home

I draw a lot and sometimes work in threes. It’s one of the ways I find my forms. I was on an art retreat this summer (2012) for three months.    I found I was happily excavating my paintings for their forms. I drew three large versions of this form on newsprint from a small painting named "A Place Called Home". This has a 3-D relief component on it -  acrylic and pen as it's main ingredients. After I did this one , I went camping with my  dog, Lilah and drew parts of the cliff across the river from me in watercolors for a few days.
