ABOUT THE ARTIST
Soña Holman, a native of San Francisco, has spent a lot of her life moving, The diverse cultures that she has lived in, both as a child and adult, Micronesia, Switzerland, Mexico, Canada, the South, Southwest & California, have impacted her art in a big way.
“I was often an outsider looking in, seeking a way to connect with others, to become comfortable in new environments. As an observer feeling the unspoken, I was keenly attuned to the landscape of the spirit, the mysteries of the human psyche. Visual art became a way of understanding what I could not say. Creating pieces that cultivate contemplation and inquiry is very compelling to me.“
Soña’s studio is now at Pump Project Art Complex in Austin, Texas. She moved from California in the fall of 2011, heading to the land of her ancestors, where her mother and grandmother were born and raised. She has been painting for over 20 years, showing her work in California, the US, Canada and Mexico. A few of the California art highlights have been receiving a Marin County Art Council Grant & being selected to show in the Sonoma Valley Art Museum 2009 Biennial.
